All projects involving recording and gathering data from recruited subjects must be reported to the Norwegian Social Science Data Services.


This is done using a web form. For some reason, this is only available in Norwegian. The most important information is summarized in English below. Note that projects must be reported at least 30 days before project start.

To get started, type in your email address in the form on this site. You will then receive an email. Look for a line in the email, similar to the one below:

In the form, the link that says "lagre og gå videre" will take you to the next page of the form.

The fields

  1. Project title
  2. Institution
    Institusjon: Universitetet i Oslo
    - Avdeling/Fakultet: Det matematisk-naturvitenskapelige fakultet OR Det humanistiske fakultet
    - Institutt: Institutt for informatikk OR Institutt for musikkvitenskap
  3. Person in charge (Supervisor /  Researcher)
    Fill in the fields: First name, Last Name, Degree (undergrad, graduate, phd), Position, Working institution, Institution address, Phone number, E-mail address
  4. Student project
    For student projects (undergraduate or master students), fill in the name and address of the student. PhD students and other researchers skip this
  5. Purpose of the project (max 1500 characters)
  6. Geographical span
    Is the project related to (1) a single institution, (2) more than one Norwegian institution, or (3) more than one Norwegian and foreign institutions.
  7. Description of subjects
    - Beskrivelse av utvalget Description of subjects. Who will participate? Students? Staff? Musicians?
    - Rekruttering og trekking Recruiting subjects. How will subjects be recruited? Who will be responsible for this?
    - Førstegangskontakt First contact. Who will get in touch with the subjects, and how will this be done?
    - Alder Age. 0-15 years, 16-17 years, Above 18 years.
    - Antall personer som inngår i utvalget How many persons will be recruited?

  9. Description of the data material
    - What sort of data is gathered
    - In most of our studies, where photo or video material is being recorded together with other data, you need to say yes (ja) to the question "Samles det inn direkte personidentifiserende opplysninger?". This means that you are collecting information which will identify a person directly. Specify in the field below if you are recording video. Usually, the other fields will not be relevant to fourMs. (Information which may identify a person indirectly, sensitive information, or information about other people than the subjects themselves).

    The top three questions are:

    - Is information which might identify a person directly stored in other ways? If so, please specify.

    There are six more questions on this page, related to security.
    - How is the data material protected from having unauthorized people seeing it? Password protected PC?
    - Are you using a mobile storage device (Laptop, USB drive, CD, etc.)? If so, what type, and why is this necessary?
